Our January 2026 meeting was well attended with 22 members and guests on a very cool Minnesota evening.  Cal Branton greeted the group and we began on time.

Mike Davis’ Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress

Mike shared his swap meet find of what appears to be a Royal B-17F model.  The airframe has a wingspan of 78” and was designed for OS.20 RC engines back in the 1980’s.

This model is well detailed.  The cowls are spun aluminum and look for be cut for (4) upright mounted 2-stroke engines.  It was built as a fixed gear model without flaps for simplicity.

It does not appear to have flown.  Mike is looking to see what it would take to make it fly or hang it up for inspiration!

For reference I’ve found a link to a fiberglass version (Mey’s Models circa 1990) that had been built as an electric. The link is:

Online SFM Dues (Link on top left of Homepage)

Just a reminder that Treasurer, Larry Sorenson has set up an On-Line Link through the website so you can pay your annual dues/donations.  There is an additional .74 fee to the club for the service, so just pay $11 or an additional donation if you wish to. Every little bit helps!

Karl Hansen’s Planes Gone By - Models Update

Karl gave an update on new SkyShark kits they are manufacturing.  He brought in a wing from the SkyShark TBM Avenger prototype build.

He will be marketing the kit with new Century Jet Models Retracts supplied by fellow SFM member Darren Bitzer.

Karl reports that kit sales has been keeping him very busy manufacturing to keep up with demand.  We look forward to seeing more as he expands the business!

Tuning R/C Gas Engine Carburetor ...

Our webmaster created a document to tried to answer the #3 question received from our global visitors emails.

A Gas R/C Carburetor are not difficult to tune if you understand how they work and how the adjustments interact.  However, in my experience, about 95% of the gas airplanes at the field are not properly tuned.

While the article doesn't touch on all motors used in our hobby, it does review the most common carburetor use on our R/C Aircraft Motors.

Our Next Meeting will be Friday February 27th!  Please bring a project/experience/story to share!
